Objectives

REIACTIS – the International Network on Age, Citizenship and Socio-economic Integration – is an academic forum that acts both as a ‘network of networks’ and a specialized think tank on ageing- and citizenship-related issues with the goal of bringing together, on an international scale, the intellectual and material resources required to carry out research in this domain. Its research framework is not confined to data collection but takes a three-dimensional approach.

- Developing specialized research

REIACTIS aims to develop comparative social science research on ageing, taking as its starting point the issues of power and political / socio-economic integration of elderly populations.

- Ensuring research continuity and encouraging an in-depth approach over time

The goal of the network is to promote in-depth research work over time, encouraging researchers and students to build on existing knowledge in order to develop new avenues of research or to go deeper into the conclusions of the latest research results from colleagues inside or outside the network. REIACTIS aims to have a structuring effect by encouraging the propagation of knowledge in its field; it seeks to promote a research process whereby its members’ expertise is constantly being added to and mutually enriched, as their networks and knowledge connect and intersect. REAICTIS thus acts as ‘curator’ and institutional memory of research undertaken in its specialist area, which it seeks to reinforce by ensuring continuity between past and present research projects.

- Disseminating research results

Conducting research and maintaining an institutional research memory are not, however, REIACTIS’ only objectives. We also wish to play a role in the public arena by providing and circulating information. The network will do its utmost to ensure that knowledge is shared as widely as possible by disseminating research results to academics, gerontology professionals and retired people themselves through training resources [such as the Ateliers d'Enseignement Gérontologique et Social] and via a promotional network for relevant publications and articles [such as the Chemin des Auteurs en Gérontologie Sociale].
